Today, students in the kindergarten learned about the letter "m". Students in Mrs. Caravella's class even got to meet a special "letter friend", Marvin the mouse! Kindergarten helps build the foundation for lifelong learning!!!

Marvin the mous- letter friend
Marvin the mouse,
For many of us, 9/11 is not just a date in history — it is a day we remember vividly because it was the day the world changed. I was in Civics class when the news broke. I recall the confusion and fear, the silence in classrooms, the concern on my teachers' faces, and the moment we began to understand that our world would be different. Many parents and grandparents have simililar memories from September 11th; memories etched in our hearts and minds.

When I think about 9/11, I am often reminded of the enduring words of Fred Rogers, who once said:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

And on that day, and in the days that followed, the helpers were everywhere — firefighters, police officers, EMTs, volunteers, neighbors, and strangers — rising up in courage, compassion, and unity. Today we honor the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children who were taken from us in a moment that shook the very foundation of our nation. We remember the bravery of the first responders, the resilience of the survivors, and the strength of the families who have carried the weight of loss with grace and courage.

As we reflect , we honor both the lives lost and the spirit of humanity that shined so brightly in the darkness. May today be a time of reflection, unity, and hope — a reminder that in the face of tragedy, the human spirit endures.

Today's 5th grade advisory classes were participating in activities around grit, responsibility, respect and relationships. I partnered with Will and Zion (we eat similar breakfasts) and they talked about how to "raise others up" when they are down to help create positive relationships. Other advisory classes were discussing non-examples of responsibility and building community through games. These traits pair well with the MRSD Vision of a Learner Competencies! Happy Friday!
