The Environmental Science classes conducted several community services initiatives this year!
Here are a few of there highlights.
- Collected over 500 pounds of film plastic, which is normally a challenge to recycle, to be reused by Trex to make composite wood. The class partnered with the Souhegan Lions Club, especially Rick Miller. Trex awarded them a bench that they assembled and placed in the Science and Technology Building.
- Raised brook trout that were released into the Souhegan River. This was thanks to a partnership with NH Fish & Game and NH Council Trout Unlimited.
- Measured when trees started budding out to make leaves this Spring. These data were uploaded into the National Phenology Network and will help scientists track seasonal changes in New England.
- Cleaned up trash on campus. Together students collected a dozen grocery bags of waste to help our community look better and celebrate Earth Day.
